Pixels decide sharpness. DPI metadata does not.
A file's "DPI" setting is just a label saved inside the file. What actually matters is how many pixels you have and how large you print them. A 3000 × 3000 pixel image prints crisp at 10 inches whether the file says 72 DPI or 300 DPI. Divide your pixel width by your print width in inches to get your real, effective resolution.

What resolution do DTF transfers need?
Aim for 300 DPI at final print size for the sharpest edges and cleanest small text. 200 DPI still prints well for most artwork. Below 150 DPI, edges soften and fine detail blurs. This checker calculates all three for your exact file so you know your safe sizes.

Why DTF artwork needs a transparent background.
DTF prints every non-transparent pixel, including white. If your design sits on a white or solid box, that box prints too. Save as a PNG with a transparent background so only your artwork transfers. The transparency map above shows exactly which areas will print.

Watch for soft or semi-transparent edges.
DTF works best when pixels are either fully opaque or fully transparent. Soft drop shadows, feathered edges, and faded glows print as a fine speckle instead of a smooth fade. Keep edges clean, or bake effects onto a solid shape.

Vector artwork scales without limit.
AI, EPS, SVG, and vector PDF files are made of math, not pixels, so they can print at any size. This checker can preview SVG files. For AI, EPS, PSD, or PDF, export a high-resolution PNG at your intended print size and check that instead.

The fastest fix for a low-resolution file.
Go back to the original source and re-export larger. Upscaling a small file in an editor adds pixels but not detail. If the original is gone, print smaller: the checker's "max at 300 DPI" size is the largest you can go and still look sharp.
